Over the weekend President-elect Barack Obama scrubbed Change.gov, his transition Web site, deleting most of what had been a massive agenda copied directly from his campaign Web site.
Gone are the promises on how an Obama administration would handle 25 different agenda items - everything from Iraq and immigration to taxes and urban policy - all items laid out on his campaign Web site,www.BarackObama.com.
Instead, the official agenda on Change.gov has been boiled down to one vague paragraph proclaiming a plan “to revive the economy, to fix our health care, education, and social security systems, to define a clear path to energy independence, to end the war in Iraq responsibly and finish our mission in Afghanistan, and to work with our allies to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon, among many other domestic and foreign policy objectives.” ...

President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start
I wonder if we get to choose the type of community service, or will obama just give us a list to pick from?

HE WANTS TO CHANGE YOUR WORLD
Thank God for football today, it will be a much needed distraction from the all the craziness. I have never in my life seen so many people in complete denial about a person. All the libs I talk to repeat the MSM garbage. They say Palin is stupid, or she scares me (I have even had republicans say that shit to me). That all of the stuff about Obama is just made up from the right. Some even are ok with socialism. If we somehow manage to dodge this bullet, it will only be that much harder next time. The generation that’s coming has no idea about hardships. They have every convenience, cars, computers, cell phones, everything. They are equalized at school; no one gets "F's" just an E instead. They are being taught that America is bad, selfish, mean etc...They read propaganda in the newspapers, they hear it on T.V. They get commentary from their teachers. I have had to fight the whole time my kids have been in school to keep them grounded and to not believe everything the teachers tell them, that they should find out for themselves if something the teacher tells them doesn't sound right to them. I have had to go to the school more times than I care to remember to complain about Bush bashing, Fox bashing, war bashing etc...The only hope we have to keep "Our America" is for Parents to never let their children forget where we came from, how we got here, and who died to protect us. If we do end up with an Obama administration, I will revisit the idea of homeschooling depending on how fast he tries to change things in our schools. I decided against it initially because I wanted my children to learn to fight against what they will no doubt have to face in the adult world. But for now, I will spend the next few days praying that God have mercy on us and not give us what we probably deserve, but to give us strong, honest leaders who will protect life, liberty and freedom.

[WeeklyUniverse.com] The 56 patriots who signed America's Declaration of Independence pledged "their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor" to the cause of freeing America from Great Britain -- the mightiest empire of the time -- and they meant it!
After the signing of July 4, 1776, many of the signers did indeed lose their homes, their life savings, and even their lives -- often after being sadistically tortured by the British!
These are the shocking historic facts contained in a report submitted anonymously to the Weekly Universe. In recounting the tragic fates of the courageous 56 signers, the report states:
Five signers were captured by the British as traitors and tortured before they died. Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned. Two lost their sons serving in the Continental Army; another had two sons captured. Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War.
They had pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor. And they meant it!
What kind of men were they?
Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists. Eleven were merchants. Nine were farmers and large plantation owners. They were men of means, and well educated. Yet they signed the Declaration of Independence knowing full well the penalty would be death if they were captured!
* Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts, and died in rags.
* Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move his family almost constantly. He served in the Congress without pay, and his family was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him, and poverty was his reward.
* Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer, Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton.
* At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson Jr., noted that the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters. He quietly urged General George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed, and Nelson died bankrupt.
* Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed. The enemy jailed his wife, and she died within a few months.
* John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying. Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields and his gristmill were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his children vanished. A few weeks later he died from exhaustion and a broken heart.
* Norris and Livingston suffered similar fates.
Such were the stories and sacrifices of the American Revolution.
These were not wild-eyed, rabble-rousing ruffians. They were soft-spoken men of means and education. They had security, but they valued liberty more. Standing tall, straight, and unwavering, they pledged: "For the support of this declaration, with firm reliance on the protection of the divine providence, we mutually pledge to each other, our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor."
They gave you and me a free and independent America.
The history books never told you a lot about what happened in the Revolutionary War. We didn't fight just the British. We were British subjects at that time, and we fought our own government!
Some of us take these liberties so much for granted, but we shouldn't. So, take a few minutes while enjoying your 4th of July holiday and silently thank these patriots. It's not much to ask for the price they paid.
Remember freedom is never free! It's time we get the word out that patriotism is not a sin, and the Fourth of July has more to it than beer, picnics, and baseball games."

Brunner disallows mismatch challenges
Elections officials cannot challenge voters on Election Day or reject absentee ballots based solely on discrepancies from verifying new voter registrations, Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner said yesterday in directives to counties.
It's the latest development from the controversy about what should be done when personal information from new voters doesn't match state motor vehicle or federal Social Security records in an automatic computer check.

Ohio law no longer allows challengers at the polls, but poll workers have the power to question a voter's eligibility. One of Brunner's directives says voters may not be challenged based solely on mismatch data.
The other directive says county elections workers cannot uses mismatches as the basis for not counting an absentee ballot.
An estimated 200,000 of the nearly 786,000 new registrations in Ohio this year have mismatches, Brunner's office has said.

Powerful House Democrats are eyeing proposals to overhaul the nation’s $3 trillion 401(k) system, including the elimination of most of the $80 billion in annual tax breaks that 401(k) investors receive.
House Education and Labor Committee Chairman George Miller, D-California, and Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Washington, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee’s Subcommittee on Income Security and Family Support, are looking at redirecting those tax breaks to a new system of guaranteed retirement accounts to which all workers would be obliged to contribute.

Under Ghilarducci’s plan, all workers would receive a $600 annual inflation-adjusted subsidy from the U.S. government but would be required to invest 5 percent of their pay into a guaranteed retirement account administered by the Social Security Administration. The money in turn would be invested in special government bonds that would pay 3 percent a year, adjusted for inflation. The current system of providing tax breaks on 401(k) contributions and earnings would be eliminated.

(Albuquerque, NM) – Public records released in New Mexico today confirm that fraudulent voter registrations are in fact turning into fraudulent votes. ACORN, currently under investigation by the FBI, is now confirmed to be responsible for producing fraudulent voter registrations and illegal votes in New Mexico. An inspection of public records has revealed that illegal votes were cast in New Mexico’s 2008 primary election.
“This is a bombshell. We now have undeniable proof that a significant number of fraudulent voters were cast in Democrat primary races for the New Mexico state legislature as a result of ACORN’s voter registration fraud,” remarked State Representative Justine Fox Young (R-Albuquerque). “No longer can ACORN argue that their phony voter registration forms don’t translate into fraudulent votes. I can't for the life of me figure out why every republican politician isn't out there talking about this. This is the very heart of America; if we can't trust our voting system then we are truly screwed. Without fair elections nothing else matters. Why bother having an election if the people "in charge" do not care about its integrity. This is just sickening to me. If I lived in Ohio, I would be gathering my friends and family with big signs and start picketing. We need to start screaming at the top of our lungs about this, we need to go out and make the media cover this. If enough people start showing up the media will have to cover it.

October 15 Secret Service says "Kill him" allegation unfounded

SCRANTON – The agent in charge of the Secret Service field office in Scranton said allegations that someone yelled “kill him” when presidential hopeful Barack Obama’s name was mentioned during Tuesday’s Sarah Palin rally are unfounded.
The Scranton Times-Tribune first reported the alleged incident on its Web site Tuesday and then again in its print edition Wednesday. The first story, written by reporter David Singleton, appeared with allegations that while congressional candidate Chris Hackett was addressing the crowd and mentioned Oabama’s name a man in the audience shouted “kill him."
News organizations including ABC, The Associated Press, The Washington Monthly and MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann reported the claim, with most attributing the allegations to the Times-Tribune story.
Agent Bill Slavoski said he was in the audience, along with an undisclosed number of additional secret service agents and other law enforcement officers and not one heard the comment.
“I was baffled,” he said after reading the report in Wednesday’s Times-Tribune.
He said the agency conducted an investigation Wednesday, after seeing the story, and could not find one person to corroborate the allegation other than Singleton.
Slavoski said more than 20 non-security agents were interviewed Wednesday, from news media to ordinary citizens in attendance at the rally for the Republican vice presidential candidate held at the Riverfront Sports Complex. He said Singleton was the only one to say he heard someone yell “kill him.”
“We have yet to find someone to back up the story,” Slavoski said. “We had people all over and we have yet to find anyone who said they heard it.”
Hackett said he did not hear the remark.
Slavoski said Singleton was interviewed Wednesday and stood by his story but couldn’t give a description of the man because he didn’t see him he only heard him.
When contacted Wednesday afternoon, Singleton referred questions to Times-Tribune Metro Editor Jeff Sonderman. Sonderman said, “We stand by the story. The facts reported are true and that’s really all there is.”
Slavoski said the agents take such threats or comments seriously and immediately opened an investigation but after due diligence “as far as we’re concerned it’s closed unless someone comes forward.” He urged anyone with knowledge of the alleged incident to call him at 346-5781. “We’ll run at all leads,” he said.

Operators of neighborhood e-mail group lists cried foul to their memberships. The NAACP logged calls. Community leaders demanded boycotts of the hotel, a common venue for Democratic events.
"Businesspeople have to be mindful of the sentiments and sensibilities of their market trading area, and Prince George's County is overwhelmingly for Obama," said community activist Arthur Turner of Kettering, who was among those advocating a boycott. "People I have talked to look at the sign as a slap in the face. They feel it was blatant disrespect. . . . I have heard people say they will no longer patronize Colony South because of that disrespect." ...

The senator from Delaware also directed campaign legal work to a Washington lobbying and law firm founded by his son R. Hunter Biden, the disclosures show.
Putting family members and their companies on the political payroll is legal if the work is legitimate and charged at market rates, according to the Federal Election Commission. Still, public watchdog groups have long criticized such arrangements.
“Even though legal within restraints, it’s not something I view as completely ethical,” said Craig Holman, legislative director for Public Citizen, a campaign finance watchdog organization. “Any candidate ought to shy away from that.”

I find that, although Walt Monegan's refusal to fire Trooper Michael Wooten was not the sole reason he was fired by Governor Sarah Palin, it was likely a contributing factor to his termination as Commissioner of Public Safety. In spite of that, Governor Palin's firing of Commissioner Monegan was a proper and lawful exercise of her constitutional and statutory authority to hire and fire executive branch department heads.
Harbor Adjustment Service of Anchorage, and its owner Ms. Murleen Wilkes, handled Trooper Michael Wooten's workers' compensation claim property and in the normal course of business like any other claim processed by Harbor Adjustment Service and Ms. Wilkes. Further, Trooper Wooten received all the workers' compensation benefits to which he was entitled.

THOUGHTS ABOUT THE POLLS

What I've noticed is that Obama's numbers aren't necessary going up, but McCains are defiantly going down. In my opinion this is because McCain is angering the conservative base. The base is SCREAMING for him to fight; to point out the truth on the economy; to point out the questionable associations of Obama. They want him to fight, and he doesn't. He passes every opportunity to point out the truth. He must know that he barely has the conservative vote as it is, that the reason he was up in the polls once upon a time was because he picked Sarah Palin. I believe that the polls reflect this anger. I don't think Obama is going to get anymore votes then he has already, but I do believe that McCain will continue to lose support if he continues down this passive path. What I don't think the polls reflect is that on election day, even though conservatives may not like McCain, they will vote for him because their love for their Country is greater than their anger for McCain.
OBAMA TRIES TO CHANGE THE SUBJECT
It looks like Obama may be a bit nervous. He has decided to throw the Keating Issue out there in response to the McCain attacks about Ayers. There's only one problem with that Obama, McCain has been out in the open about that; It happened over 17 years ago, and a the Democratic special counsel in charge recommended that Senator McCain be completely cleared. This shows how worried Obama is about Ayers and his other associations. This is going to get really ugly in the last 4 weeks. I expect more cries of racism and a lot more attacks from Obama.
I say Bring it on, the truth is on our side.

The e-mail said teachers should wear blue Tuesday for "Obama Blue Day" and to "register two voters or talk to two people who may be on the fence/or a McCain supporter and sway them to become a Obama supporter."
The e-mail also states: "There are people out there not yet registered. You teach some of them." ...
Are we really surprised by this? I have to check on a daily basis what my kids bring home from school and what kind of statements are being made by their teachers. It's a constant battle. The liberal/Democrat talking points and philosophies are being taught to our children starting in Kindergarten. We have to be vigilant and vocal about things like this.

DOES OBAMA PLAY THE GAME BETTER?
We know how this will play out don't we. The Democrats will adopt this plan from Obama and give him all the credit, the republicans will have no choice but to vote for the Bill this time around. Obama will claim to have done it all without going to Washington. The end result will be that McCain looks like a failure. Never mind that the Dems could have passed the original Bill, they do after all have the majority. But that fact is lost on many. Could this whole thing have been planned by Pelosi? If so she's must be a genius, of course we know she's really just a partisan idiot so it's not possible for her to have thought this all ahead.
I really don't believe that McCain is a failure but it is clear that Obama is much better at playing this game called Politics, and Obama played this one well and unfortunately in elections perceptions matter.

DEAL REACHED?

My friends, the original bill was loaded with pork, and it was my goal to make sure that this was a clean bill. Like I said in the debates, I'm going to name the names of the people in this congress who tried to add pork to this bill. I'm glad that with the help of the Republican House, we were able to clean it up and get it passed for the good of the American People. I have distributed a list of people along with a list of pork they tried to add. But for the sake of getting it on the record I will be reading it on the floor tomorrow.
That would make me happy, but alas I know I'm dreaming.

WHO WON THE DEBATE?

In my opinion, McCain showed himself to be much more in tune with what needs to be done in Washington; He acted much more Presidential then did Obama. Although I don't agree with McCain on a lot of things, I know this man loves his Country and will do whatever it takes to protect her. He has the experience and the wisdom to handle a variety of issues, including the economy but even more so the War on Terror. I like the fact that he wants to get rid of the spending in Washington, I wish him luck with that especially if their is a veto proof Majority. I like that he's tough on terror, our enemies need to know not to mess with him. They will think twice before taking action with him as President.
Obama didn't do a bad job debating, he didn't seem to lose his composure, although he looked frustrated and interrupted several times. I think the Obama camp will be happy that he didn't make any obvious mistakes. I don't think he lost any votes with his performance, but I also don't think he got any. Half the time I didn't know what the hell he was talking about, and I'm not sure he knew himself. On the economy it was clear to me that he leans towards socialism or worse. I'm not sure the general public gets that though. They hear someone who seems to know a lot about different issues and is able to talk about them seemingly "intelligently." On the War on Terror he failed miserably, he has no idea how to present himself to our enemies. They will see him as weak and naive. This is one of the scary things about Obama; I really believe if he gets elected we will see more attacks, and a lot of what has been accomplished by the Bush Administration will be undone.
Overall, I thought it was a good debate to watch, I wasn't bored and learned a few things about each guy. The media will spin this as a draw or win for Obama because he didn't fall on his face. I believe the average American will see it differently. My hope is that the media affords to Governor Palin the same set of standards when she debates next week, but I'm not holding my breath.

John McCain’s decision to suspend his campaign was made in the hopes that politics could be set aside to address our economic crisis.
In response, Americans saw a familiar spectacle in Washington. At a moment of crisis that threatened the economic security of American families, Washington played the blame game rather than work together to find a solution that would avert a collapse of financial markets without squandering hundreds of billions of taxpayers’ money to bailout bankers and brokers who bet their fortunes on unsafe lending practices.
Both parties in both houses of Congress and the administration needed to come together to find a solution that would deserve the trust of the American people. And while there were attempts to do that, much of yesterday was spent fighting over who would get the credit for a deal and who would get the blame for failure. There was no deal or offer yesterday that had a majority of support in Congress. There was no deal yesterday that included adequate protections for the taxpayers. It is not enough to cut deals behind closed doors and then try to force it on the rest of Congress — especially when it amounts to thousands of dollars for every American family.
The difference between Barack Obama and John McCain was apparent during the White House meeting yesterday where Barack Obama’s priority was political posturing in his opening monologue defending the package as it stands. John McCain listened to all sides so he could help focus the debate on finding a bipartisan resolution that is in the interest of taxpayers and homeowners. The Democratic interests stood together in opposition to an agreement that would accommodate additional taxpayer protections.
Senator McCain has spent the morning talking to members of the Administration, members of the Senate, and members of the House. He is optimistic that there has been significant progress toward a bipartisan agreement now that there is a framework for all parties to be represented in negotiations, including Representative Blunt as a designated negotiator for House Republicans. The McCain campaign is resuming all activities and the Senator will travel to the debate this afternoon. Following the debate, he will return to Washington to ensure that all voices and interests are represented in the final agreement, especially those of taxpayers and homeowners.
